Another question about Steam?

Yesterday I posted a couple questions about Steam, but I didn't get the responses I was looking for (blame me for not wording it correctly).

Anyway.. Let's say I buy Crysis from Best Buy (Crysis isn't in the Steam library). Can I then play it through Steam like any other Steam-supported game? Just open it up and play it without having the use the disc?Another question about Steam?
Nope.

Steam only supports...you guessed it, Steam-supported games. Currently, Crysis runs on EA Link, a service run by EA Games. So unless EA Games sells out the licensing to Steam, you won't be able to purchase Crysis or play it on the Steam network.Another question about Steam?
The Crysis software is probably designed to check for the disk (as part of their copy protection scheme....guessing you can't easily copy the disk). Steam is an alternative copy protection system where the authentication occurs through a login to the Steam service. This allows you to install the game in many locations but only run one copy. Given that, most people are unwilling to share their login details so they can play the games without worrying that another user will login and disconnect them from the game. Crysis on the other hand relies on their own security scheme that at a minimum requires the disk in the drive. Your options here are to make an ISO image of the disk and use a virtual CD/DVD drive application to make it appear that the disk is installed. Note that some disk may not allow this due to their copy protection too.
